Hot Chocolate To The Rescue!

With freezing temperatures and snowfall this week there was only one thing for it...

...we needed HOT CHOCOLATE!!! Seemed to go down well at all three choirs, maybe we should do it more often?

The weather did affect the choirs this week. We had quite heavy snowfall just before our Westbury rehearsal started and it continued to snow for the whole time so quite a few didn't make it. Those of us who had got there were keeping an eye out as we didn't fancy being snowed in...even if there was hot chocolate! Still it was all ok, it had calmed down by time we left. We had a great hour and a quarter in the warm and made good progress with a new song, Total Praise.

The snow threatened to disrupt Shirehampton's rehearsal on Wednesday but didn't quite manage to. There was quite a lot of giggling from the alto section that night as Geraldine started to teach them their part for Total Praise...the phrase on their lips was definitely "how low can you go?!!"

Thursday was Easton and we were missing lots of folk...but those who came sang their socks off and got at least one other song under their belt. 

So, what will next week bring? We shall wait and see!

Let it snow!!!

 I'm guessing for most of us this is the scene we woke up to today!

As a Mum of two young boys whose school was closed today I have just spent the afternoon out sledging and only fell off once! Now back in the warm it gives me time to reflect a bit on our first week back at choir...

So, first we were at Westbury and we have a new photographer amongst us who caught Geraldine and I on camera. If you can think of a good caption for either picture, let me know!

This term GGCC are re-visiting the greatest hits! When Geraldine, Naomi and I met before Christmas we thought it would be great to celebrate about 10 years of GGCC and what better way than to do a selection of our favourite songs. 

Shirehampton GGCC have a new home now so we all met for the first time at Shirehampton Baptist Church on Wednesday and had a few newcomers too...fantastic! Here we are in action:

 We all agreed we like our new home and the acoustics are lovely too!

On Thursday it was Easton's turn and boy were we glad of a cosy warm welcome at House of Praise...there were a few first snowflakes outside too. Great turn out considering how cold it was and we had a lot of fun, managed to look at three songs which is pretty good going in an hour and a quarter.

New home for Shirehampton GGCC!

We can now confirm that we have found a new home for Shirehampton GGCC! Cue drum roll....

...Shirehampton Baptist Church, Station Road, BS11 9TU.

We'll start meeting there this Wednesday 16th January at 6.30pm.

Westbury GGCC starts this Tuesday (15th) and Easton GGCC this Thursday (17th).

We're in the Post & New Term Starts Soon!

So Christmas has been and gone and we're now officially in 2013! We hope you all had a great time over the festive period. After our St Edyth's concert a friend of GGCC wrote an article about us which appeared in the Post read it here

Our new GGCC term starts very soon and we're looking forward to it! Here are start dates & details:

Tuesday 15th January - Westbury GGCC starts. 6.30-7.45pm @ Cairns Road Baptist Church, Westbury Park, BS6 7TH

Wednesday 16th January - Shirehampton GGCC starts. 6.30-7.45pm @ TBC (new venue for this year, not yet decided!)

Thursday 17th January - Easton GGCC starts. 11am-12.15pm @ House of Praise Church, 2 Tudor Road, Easton, BS5 6BW

Anyone is welcome to all of our choirs and there are no auditions! There is no membership fee either. Just come along.

St Edyth's, a fantastic end to a fantastic term!

So, the GGCC concerts are now over. But what a time we had! On Wednesday last week we performed our songs at St Edyth's church in Sea Mills and even though the building was a tad on the cold side, we soon warmed it up with beautiful harmonies, stonking solos and lots of clapping! We had another full house even though it was such a cold night.

Thanks so much to everyone at St Edyth's for hosting us, the building has such great acoustics so we love singing there!

So, that's it for GGCC until the New Year. Term will start again on Tues 15th Jan for Westbury GGCC, Wednesday 16th Jan for Shirehampton GGCC and Thursday 17th Jan for Easton GGCC. Shirehampton GGCC will be meeting in a new venue still yet to be confirmed so watch this space.

Electric Atmosphere at House of Praise!

So on Sunday night all three GGCC choirs sang their hearts out at House of Praise Church in Easton. The church was packed out and right from start we knew it was going to be a special evening. The audience were treated to heart felt perfomances of songs including 'Bridge over troubled water' by Shirehampton GGCC, 'You never let go' by Easton GGCC and  'Magnificent and Holy' by Westbury GGCC. All our soloists and small groups were brilliant! We're so thankful to all the folk at House of Praise who made us so welcome, worked really hard to get the church ready and provided lovely refreshments.

Cairns Road Concert Is A Cracker!!!

Wow, what a fantastic start to our concerts we had at Cairns Road last night! All those weeks of hard work really paid off. Right from the first song "Beautiful One" we had amazing solos, wonderful small groups, big big smiles, great stage presence and dynamic diction!!! I had a hunch it was going to be good as we began to rehearse and three choirs that rehearse on their own suddenly became one big wall of beautiful sound, you could almost see the confidence growing note by note. Well done everyone!
