The social whirl begins!

Well this is the time in the term when Geraldine and I get well fed!!! Yes, it's choir socials time! We had our first on Wednesday with the lovely Shirehampton crew and after a good vocal workout in rehearsal everyone was ready for yummy cake! Thanks to everyone for helping set up and clear away too. Next week (8th March) we have Easton GGCC social, the lovely Kym is doing the food for us, I know what she's planning to make and my mouth is watering already! Then on 13th it's the Westbury GGCC social...yay!

We now have posters for all the concerts...here is the one for Easton, our first performance! If you'd like any of the others then email me gospelgen@googlemail.com.

Well that's it for now, have a great weekend!

Over half way!!!

So, here we are at the end of week 5 of our 9 week term! We're well on schedule too with pretty much all the songs taught (so excited about them all, they're gonna be amazing!).

On Wednesday next week, 29th we have our social at the Shirehampton GGCC so we're looking forward to that, it's always a lot of fun to eat yummy food and get to chat to people for longer than two minutes!

Plans for the concerts are coming together really well...a live band will be accompanying us at one of them (yay!)...you'll have to wait and see which one it is!

We're also getting requests for the choir to sing at various events in May/June which is fantastic, it's always a lot of fun taking GGCC on the road.

Well that's it for now...back soon!

A chance to fly!

Well it's freezing outside and we're waiting to see if it's gonna snow this weekend! This week was week two of our term and we were thrilled that so many braved the elements to come and sing! All three choirs seem to be eating up the new songs, Geraldine and Em have been so impressed with the progress that all are making and it's so lovely that we are greeted with so many smiley faces each rehearsal.

The lovely Barbara D from Easton GGCC (who comes from Paris...not each week though!!!) has emailed me something she said she's like to share with you all so here it is...

"I like so much to sing in the gospel choir because we feel more our soul, and it's as to be free when we sing, it takes out your mind and you can give to your body a chance to fly.
So thank you for your choir you Emma and Var and Geraldine you are so kind."

Thank you Barbara, it's loads of fun having you in GGCC, you pick up the songs so well even though English is not your first language!

Well that's it for now...stay warm folks!!!

Shouting from the rooftops!

We thought it would be nice to hear from someone else for a change and the lovely Jane from Westbury GGCC has sent us a story for the blog! Take it away Jane...

"Where to begin, I have a granddaughter who is now 11yrs who I haven't had any contact with since 2007 due to family breakdown, equally my son, her dad, has also not had any contact. As was illustrated last night when we go through these dark times in our lives it is so easy to let the darkness take over, and desperation become all encompassing.
I made a decision to swim not sink and set up a support group for grandparents who are denied contact.
A lot of my time is taken up with grieving grandparents, and suicidal grandparents, I can talk to them through those really bad moments and hopefully between us we pull each other through.
But just sometimes I selfishly wonder who is supporting me?
Finding GGCC, has been my support and thank you so much.
When I am 'singing' I think of Liandra, my granddaughter, and its my way of shouting out from the rooftops how much I miss her and love her."

What an encouraging story and truly an honour to be able, along with the rest of GGCC to support such a lovely lady.

Week 1 - Shirehampton & Easton

Well, this has been such a great week! First Westbury Park gang do a fab job and then Shirehampton & Easton go and do the same!

First Shirehampton then. On a dark drizzly winter evening it was great to be back in the "toasty warm" Beachley Walk centre. There was still a definite buzz going round from the concerts before Christmas, people were really glad to see each other again after the break and there was a real sense of achievement from last term and excitement about this term. It was lovely to have some new faces too, especially a new man and our wonderful three men were particularly pleased to become four!!!

Then today it was Easton's turn. Again a grey, wet day outside but inside we were able to forget about that and enjoy catching up with good friends, reflecting on the amazing journey we had last term and sing brilliant songs of hope and freedom...what more could you want!!!  We've loved teaching the new songs to all the choirs, they've been picked up so quickly...we can't wait for next week!!!

Week 1 - Westbury Park

Wow, what a great start to the term we had last night at Cairns Road with the Westbury Park GGCC! Lots of new faces as well, I think at least one person had brought four or five new people alone! We will do our best to try and learn names but might try name labels next week to aid our brain cells. We started two of the songs, Strength will rise (Everlasting God) and Happy Day (not the Sister Act one!) and they're already sounding great.

So, tonight Shirehampton GGCC starts at the Beachley Walk centre and then tomorrow it's Easton, we'll let you know how we get on!
